Need to Heal your Relationship? Why not have a Hug – Tantric style?
Tantra is not about sex, it is about connection and is undoubtedly a spiritual path. It can help to establish deeper connections and forge meaningful intimacy between couples, but Tantra also offers ways to deepen your relationship with yourself and others.
To embrace Tantra is to embrace a love and zest for life. For those who are new to Tantra and wondering what it is and whether it is for them, then let me explain that Tantra is for anyone that wants to improve the quality of their life and know what it is to fully experience bliss. It is a practice that combines movement, breath, meditation, bodywork and sound to assist the chakras to open. This opening of the chakras allows dormant sexual energy, also known as kundalini, to move up from the pelvis along the spine. As this life-force energy moves up the spine, it helps one to transform and heal.
The intention of tantric practices is to expand the body and experience back to the soul’s original blissful state (known as purusha in Sanskrit) to when you were born free of stress or negative emotions and tuned to experience bliss.
So how can Tantra solve your relationship challenges?
Tantra offers simple and practical communication techniques that you can practice and use immediately in your daily lives. Tantra can become your new way of relating—with intention, love and passion.
Relationships are harder to hold together than ever. Today, with the increased use of technology for communication, both partners often holding down full-time jobs, the increase in lifestyle expectations, family commitments and financial pressures it is easy for couples to drift apart. Tantra can help couples to connect, ignite new passion, rekindle their old flame and remember why they came together to share their lives.
There are many Tantra meditation exercises that are great for couples, but when you feel that life is just a little much to cope with, sometimes all you need is a hug.
We all know what a hug is, but most of us don’t hug in the tantric way. A melting hug is a hug from the heart with the whole body. This is a truly deep and meaningful hug that will connect you with your partner as every cell of your body is involved.
There is nothing quite like a real body to body hug. It’s authentic, in the moment and done with full presence and full in the moment awareness. It’s a hug that is allowed to last, there is no rush to end the hug. It is best to allow time for this exercise. Normally we hug only seconds, but a tantric hug lasts for minutes and can feel longer.
This is a super simple Tantric exercise to get you started
Before starting the hug process you may want to write down or reflect on all the positive things you love, like and desire about your partner. These don’t have to be major things, they can be anything from smell, to touch, through to thoughtful gestures. You may even want to think about things that originally attracted you to your partner.
When you are ready to begin the Tantra Hug then just relax, stand centred with your feet slightly apart and connect with your partner.
Relax and make the front of your body soft and open, imagine your body opening up and your energy flowing into your partner’s and vice versa. You can visualise that your two bodies are merging together. On your out-breath, your energy sinks into the body of your partner. On your in-breath, you let your partner’s energy into yours.
Take your time. Relax and breathe. Don’t force anything and let go of expectations. Just smile and enjoy.
It’s not a formal exercise, you can’t get it wrong. So follow your intuition and do what feels right. It’s all about your energetic presence and the loving intention you have towards your partner along with the desire to connect and weave with them.
Things you should remember:
- Hug with your whole body.
- Relax and enjoy.
- Be present and let go of all other worries/concerns etc.
