What is a Tantric Relationship?
There are many misconceptions about Tantra and couples that practice Tantra.
A Tantric Union is all about merging. A couple who bring Tantra into their relationship are not concerned with sex and how often or long they have sex; instead being more concerned with the conscious intimacy and on embarking on a meaningful and loving merging in which they can connect with their partner on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.
In Tantra, lovemaking isn’t a fight or a race to climax and it’s not about self-gratification – instead it’s about honouring the divine in your spouse. This is not to say that Tantric love-making is void of energy and passion, but that there are more facets to a Tantric relationship and it results in a deep and meaningful interconnectedness. Indeed in Tantra, eye gazing can be more satisfying than penetrative sex. Tantric techniques for couples focus on heightening intimacy and connection rather than seeing penetrative, physical orgasm as the ultimate goal.
Partners bringing Tantra into their relationship are encouraged to bring an attitude of reverence into their lovemaking and to all their interactions. It is true to say that the tantric approach has far more to do with your mental approach than with technique and Tantric sex certainly has nothing to do with bragging about long sex sessions or staying power.
In Tantra, sacred union is achieved by merging our male and female principles through pure consciousness and pure energy. In this process love energy is represented by the female divine power, known as Shakti, whereas consciousness is represented by the male divine power known as Shiva. The marriage of Shiva and Shakti is considered to be the Divine Union, a fundamental concept of Tantra.
Love making is the ultimate way for a couple to achieve tantric union. This is why sex is always associated with tantra and is often misunderstood. In Tantra orgasm goes beyond a purely physical wave, indeed through Tantric practices the orgasmic wave enjoyed by a couple can go beyond that at a genital level and can go throughout the whole body and mind.
The word ‘tantra’ means the weaving and expansion of energy and it sees couples enjoy a higher level of intimacy and connection that has the benefit of them also enjoying more powerful orgasms.
Couples who practice Tantra often say that the practice heightens their emotions and gives them a better mind and body connection to each other. Indeed Tantric Master, Mal Weeraratne explains that ‘’Tantra practices whilst heightening pleasure in a relationship has the added benefit of giving couples a deep sense of intimacy, meaning that their relationships become stronger and happier with a deeper sense of trust being built. ‘’
It must be said that Tantra teaches individuals to become more in-tune with their own body, as well as the sensations they are feeling and the vibrations your partner is sending through their body. Tantra is about orgasmic energy and not orgasm; indeed those who practice tantra are able to harness sexual energy to revitalise their whole body and mind and enjoy a higher level of consciousness being able to fully experience bliss in all areas of their life.
So, slow down and make an orgasmic life your mission not orgasm with the aid of Tantra.
